Selina is a British Artist and Masters graduate of Central St Martins. Her work is inspired by familiar objects and interiors, which subtly suggest a human presence. A world where inanimate objects have a nascent life and animals anthropomorphise.
Selina’s canine centred collection ‘Chien Couture’ draws from the world of high fashion, opulent interiors and time living on the French Riviera. Her paintings are held in private collections internationally including that of world famous band ‘Kings Of Leon’ and recently featured in luxury interior magazine, World Of Interiors.
Selina says, “I have always used objects and interiors to create narrative and it was during four years that I spend living on the French Riviera, observing the locals in their designer outfits, walking their little companions sometimes dressed in matching attire, that I began my collection ‘Chien Couture’. I wanted to convey the story of the fashion house introducing the dog into the narrative. There is a suggestion of the owner, but you certainly question who is in control as the dog takes centre stage, their characters come to life. My process is lengthy, from constructing the narrative through numerous drafts to the almost masochistic detailing of wood grain to the fine hairs of the dogs coat. Many of my collectors enjoy the instant aesthetic of the compositions, exploring the narrative over time. It always makes me smile when they get in touch after living with their artwork for a while and are excited to share with me their discovery of something new in the piece.”
